I am in my research stage of selecting a boat for the purpose of circumnavigating; most likely single-handed. I live in Portland, Oregon and I saw an Ericson 31 Independence for sale here locally. I'm getting ready to redo a lot of the wood inside and getting her ready for a run down the coast to Catalina Island.

WebMar 6, 2001 · Great boat I owned and sailed an Ericson 27 (1972) for 10 years, sailed the Great Lakes and the East Coast. This was done without an engine as I needed to replace the A4, removed it and put in a larger holding tank and had lots of sail storage. Saw all kinds of weather and the boat handled it well. WebMay 25, 2011 · Yes, the Ericson boats are about 2000 lbs. heavy but they sail nice to their rating (about 117) and have a well build solid hull. The San Diego boat has a standard rig which may not be optimum for the Columbia (between the bridges) but it seems to be fine in San Diego so...who knows.

WebMar 14, 2015 · The Ericson is a 74' E25 with a 4 cycle 7.5 short shaft Mecury OB with alternator. It has a keel C/B configuration. It has been used minimally for the last decade. The owners live in the mountains and have a Montgomery 17. I figure I can get them both for around $4000.
